Our subjects are among the best in the world

2017 QS World University Rankings logo

Your University has been confirmed as one of the world’s leading institutions in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The prestigious rankings feature Nottingham as an elite institution in 37 of the 46 subjects surveyed, with 7 subjects in the global top 50 and 21 subjects in the top 100.

A world leading University

Based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact, the QS World University Ranking by Subject series allows prospective students to compare universities in their particular area of interest. 4,438 universities were evaluated as part of this year’s survey, with 1,117 institutions making the ranking.

The league table proves that our courses are among the best in the world. We were placed particularly highly in some of our most popular subject areas. Earning an incredible 6th place ranking for the second year running, our Pharmacy & Pharmacology courses are truly world leading, placing higher than courses at institutions such as Yale University and King’s College London. Other subjects placed highly include Education (22nd), Anatomy & Physiology (36th), Veterinary Science (29th), Nursing (42nd), Geography (46th) and English Language & Literature (49th).

Dr Paul Greatrix, Registrar, said, “We’re very proud of the breadth of subjects we offer at Nottingham. To be ranked so highly across this range is testament to our exceptional teaching standards and the level of quality we demand from both students and staff. Yet again, Pharmacy & Pharmacology has placed in the top 10, which we are especially proud to see.”

Performing at our best

Demonstrating our commitment to excellence, this latest success follows further top achievements for the University. Last year’s QS World University Rankings placed Nottingham in the top 1% of universities internationally, while The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017 named Nottingham as the best in the UK for graduate employment.

Alistair McCall, editor of The Sunday Times Good University Guide, said, “Nottingham graduates are renowned the world over for their intelligence, quality and can-do attitude. This is instilled in them as they progress through the university. It’s what makes them so popular with graduate recruiters.

“Not only does Nottingham provide an outstanding academic education, it also offers students the extra dimensions that result in them leaving as well-rounded individuals ready to take their place in the world.”
