Description

media-training

A training conference designed to give staff a taste of how they can use the media to support their research.

This event is suitable for anyone with involvement in generating impact and promoting research.

There are three headline sessions:

  • an overview of how the press office can help you
  • a panel discussion on what journalists are looking for
  • a talk from Eric Stoller on using social media.

Breakout sessions on writing opinion pieces, using video, becoming a television expert and working with external organisations are also on offer.

This free event has been put together by the University’s award-winning press office and includes guest speakers from the Guardian, the BBC, and the Engineer, academics who have had tangible benefits from engaging with the media, as well as film makers and leading experts from Nature, the British Science Association, the Science Media Centre, and the Medical Research Council. More speakers will be confirmed nearer the time.

It will take place 9am - 5.30pm on Thursday 22 November at Nottingham Lakeside Arts. Attendees are invited to sign up for the whole day or simply the sessions they are most interested in. Food and drink is provided.

Following the conference Registrar Dr Paul Greatrix will host the University’s first social media awards and launch a Tweet Up initiative. The University’s Knowledge Impact and Exchange Awards will take place at East Midlands Conference Centre later in the evening with two of the event’s awards dedicated to media work.
