Entry requirements

Foundation courses

Students who have taken A levels but not met the grade requirement can be considered for our Foundation Programmes.

Our foundation courses

We offer foundation courses for students who are not qualified for direct undergraduate entry.

  • Business, Law and Social Sciences, taught at the University of Nottingham International College
  • Engineering and Physical Sciences, taught in our Faculty of Engineering
  • Science, taught at the University of Nottingham International College

Undergraduate courses

Full-time courses across our five faculties typically last for three to four years, although some degrees such as medicine and architecture have a longer duration.

Undergraduate entry requirements

We accept students who have taken the Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education (Advanced level). Offers will generally be equivalent to the A-level requirements listed in the  undergraduate prospectus

Students taking APs or SATs should refer to our entry requirements for the  USA.

Masters courses

We offer a wide range of postgraduate masters degree programmes across our five faculties. Full-time masters courses typically last for one year.

Masters entry requirements

A four-year Bachelor Special Degree or a three-year Bachelor General Degree are acceptable for entry to our masters programmes.

Check course details in our Postgraduate Prospectus to see whether your chosen course requires the equivalent of an Upper Second Class (2:1) or Lower Second Class (2:2) degree.

Our entry requirements for degrees from Sri Lankan universities vary depending on the university where you have studied and the course you are applying for at Nottingham. If you are unsure, please  contact us for further information.

Research courses

Our PhD courses, available across a wide range of subject areas, typically include three years of full time research followed by an optional writing-up period of one year to complete your thesis.

PhD entry requirements

Applicants should hold a Master's degree of a good standard from a recognised University in a relevant subject area.

See the masters section for guidance on the grades and GPAs we typically require from Universities in Sri Lanka. These will vary depending on the University where you have studied and the course you are applying for at Nottingham.

You should identify possible supervisors at Nottingham before applying and prepare a  research proposal to submit with your application.
