Entry requirements

Foundation courses

Students taking the Tawjahiya (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) or American High School Diploma (no APs or SAT IIs) are usually required to take a foundation course.

Our foundation courses

Students require at least an 80% Tawjahiya average with 80% in Physics and Maths) for the Engineering foundation programme.  For Science  an 80% average is required with 80% in either Biology or Chemistry and 75% in Maths. For Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences and Business an 80% average is required with 75% in Maths for Social Sciences and Business.

Students taking the American High School Diploma require a minimum 3.2 GPA (unless SAT IIs or APs have been taken - see undergraduate guidance for further information).

We offer foundation courses for students who are not qualified for direct undergraduate entry.

  • Business, Law and Social Sciences, taught at The University of Nottingham International College.
  • Engineering and Physical Sciences, taught in our Faculty of Engineering.
  • Science, taught at The University of Nottingham International College.

Undergraduate courses

Full-time courses across our five faculties typically last for three to four years, although some degrees such as medicine and architecture have a longer duration.

Undergraduate entry requirements

Our Undergraduate Prospectus lists entry requirements for A levels and International Baccalaureate students for each course.

If you are applying from the Emirati High School system or Tawjahiya (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) you must complete a foundation course for entry to our undergraduate programmes. As well as our own foundation courses, we accept foundation certificates from selected providers in the UK.

Students who have completed a Diploma from one of the Higher Colleges of Technology listed below, with a GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 may be considered for first year entry and those with a Higher Diploma of 3.0/4.0 may be considered for second year on an individual basis (depending on subjects studied and relevance).

  • Dubai Men's College / Women's College
  • Fujairah Men's College / Women's College
  • Ras Al Khaimah Men's College / Women's College
  • Sharjah Men's College / Women's College

Students who have completed two years of university study and achieved good grades may be considered for entry to our undergraduate degree courses. Indian XII applicants can be considered for first year entry and should refer to entry requirements for India.

Masters courses

We offer a wide range of postgraduate masters degree programmes across our five faculties. Full-time masters courses typically last for one year.

Masters entry requirements

Applicants should hold a bachelors degree of a good standard from a recognised university, usually in a relevant subject area. Check course details in our Postgraduate Prospectus to see whether your chosen course requires the equivalent of an Upper Second Class (2:1) or Lower Second Class (2:2) degree.

Our entry requirements for degrees from UAE universities vary depending on the university where you have studied and the course you are applying for at Nottingham. Research courses

Our PhD courses, available across a wide range of subject areas, typically include three years of full time research followed by an optional writing-up period of one year to complete your thesis.

PhD entry requirements

Applicants should hold a masters degree of a good standard from a recognised university in a relevant subject area.
